InHe 15
R: Personal, D: Concentration, T: Smell
Upon casting this smell, the Maga can smell plants, berries and mushrooms that are safe to eat and usually follow that scent to its source in order to obtain some food.
When she was young, Audria of Tremere once got lost in a forest and nearly starved because she lacked the survival skills to identify what plants were safe to eat and the knowledge of where to find them. She developed this spell to ensure that if she was caught short for food again she could at least find enough for her to eat.
(Base: 3, R: Personal, D: Concentration +1, T: Smell +3)
InHe 20
R: Personal, D: Concentration, T: Vision
Caster can see any structural flaws in a wooden building, bridge, or object.
(Base: 3, R: Personal, D: Concentration +1, T: Vision +4)
InHe 50 Ritual
R: Touch, D: Moon, T: Group
In the heart of many ancient forests there is usually a glade where the oldest and wisest trees can be found, sometimes hidden within a regio. To speak with this council of trees, this ritual must be cast upon a solstice or equinox. For the duration of the spell the Maga can hear their deliberations and speak at their council, though she may not necessarily be welcome nor her requests granted. Note: This spell only works with trees which are already conscious.
Ancient trees have different personalities and powers, it is up to the storyguide to determine what aid or outcome may follow a Maga’s interaction with the council:
Alder: Protective with limited oracular powers
Apple: Kind and with some healing ability
Beech: Paternal and able to command other trees
Birch: Stoic and defends against evil spirits
Blackthorn: Commanding, with an acceptance of and insight into fate
Elder: Wise, with an insight into the cycle of life, death and rebirth
Elm: Forthright and strong, occasionally vengeful
Hawthorn: Sensitive to magic and knowledgeable of defences against it
Hazel: Divinatory and knowledgeable; a quiet voice that carries great weight
Oak: Lord of the forest, the oak usually adopts the role of a leader of any council
Pear: Whimsical, capable of inspiring love
Pine: Accusing and judgemental, but also loyal and proud
Rowan: Magical and manipulative; will bargain cleverly with wizards
Willow: Sensitive to magic, ghosts and death
Yew: Can offer defence against spirits and induce visions
(B: 15, R: Touch +1, D: Moon +3, T: Group +2; Ritual)
InHe 70 Ritual
R: Arcane Connection, D: Year, T: Individual
The spell allows the caster to talk to the target, which may be any plant or plant-creature, even if the two are separated by any amount of distance, although it requires an arcane connection at casting.
This spell was designed by Religia of Merinitia, as a last recourse in trying to converse with a powerful gigantic faerie lord known as Treebeard. Ridiculously slow in conversation, it was simply impossible for Religia to talk to him in one sitting. Accordingly, she created this spell to allow her to talk to him from anywhere. Their discourse lasted 5 years, during which time Religia only spoke 6 times, and Treebeard only spoke 5 pages’ worth. It seems that her agenda (allowing her access to a certain regio) would have been accepted, but unfortunately she passed to Final Twilight before she could finish the conversation.
(Base 15, +4 Arcane Connection, +4 Year, +3 size)
