ReAn Level 3
R: Voice, D: Momentary, T: Individual
You give a momentary movement to an item made of animal products.
A serving of goose might be inadvertently spilled onto a noble’s lap. A quill might scribe a single letter (with repeated castings a word could be written). Hot grease might spill to the floor, or to the cook.
ReAn Level 3
R: Touch, D: Concentration, T: Individual
You control the motion of an object made of animal products that you touch.
A bullwhip you hold may entangle an opponent. A similar spell would allow the caster to ride upon the back of a dead pony or other dead critter of size +1 or smaller.
ReAn 10 Faerie
R: Road, D: Sun, T: Individual
This spell creates an overwhelming desire to travel along the road to the location of the caster in the target animal.
(Base 2,+2 range, +2 duration)
ReAn 10
R: Voice, D: Sun, T: Ind
This spell implants the simple idea that another person (specified by the caster) has some tasty tid-bit of food in their pocket. The animal then invariably takes a strong interest in that individual.
Jana of Tytalus was in an awkward spot, cornered by a curious priest who seemed intent on discovering her identity. To create a distraction she used this spell to create the impression in the mind of the Inn’s quite large and greedy dog, that the priest had some food in his pocket. While the priest fended off the sudden attention, she was able to quietly slip away.
(Base 2, +2 Voice, +2 Sun)
ReAn 10
R: Touch, D: Momentary, T: Group
This spell changes an animal skin (via cutting stretching, scraping and drying) into a stack of prepared velum
(Base 3 +1 touch +2 group)
ReAn 15
R: Arcane, D: Concentration, T: Individual
The caster's familiar feels a strong urge to go to him and while the caster concentrates the familiar knows which direction to go to find him.
(Base 2, Arcane +4, Concentration +1, Individual)
ReAn 20
R: Eye, D: Sun, T: Individual
Put an animal into a state of deep sleep, similar to hibernation. The animal will not awaken normally while the spell is in effect, even if shaken or prodded; but the spell ends if the animal sustains any significant injury or pain. An animal up to the size of an elephant (Size +4) may be affected.
(Base 4 (by analogy with ReMe Level 4 guideline), +1 Eye, +2 Sun, +1 size)
ReAn 20
R: Personal, D: Momentary, T: Individual
The caster in Animal form can leap to safty, 500 paces away. The unicorn is a highly evasive animal and can leap to safty as needed.
(Base 20, Personal, Momentary, Individual)
ReAn 20
R: Voice, D: Sun, T: Individual
The caster summons and calms a small bird on which the caster ties a note or a tiny item (e.g. a ring) with a thread. The thread is an arcane connection to a piece of cloth, such as a friendly magus' robes, and the bird feels compelled to fly to this arcane connection where it waits until the spell end or the message or item is delivered. An un-laden bird can fly seven leagues an hour and a laden one can fly four leagues an hour. If the bird is attacked the spell is broken. If there is no birds within voice range, such as at sea, the spell fails.
(Base 4, Voice +2, Sun +2, Individual)
ReAn25
R: Touch, D: Ring, T: Circle
This circle is the reverse of a ward, meant to keep a target magical beast within its perimeter. The circle is effective against beasts with a Magic Might as high as 25, so long as the spell penetrates.
(Base effect)
ReAn 35
R: Voice, D: Sun, T: Group
You can make a group of wolves perform any action which it is capable of. New instructions can only be carried out within Voice range, but the animal will carry out the instructions even if it passes beyond that range.
(B: 15, R: Voice +2, D: Sun +2, T: Group +2, Restriction* -2)
ReAn 45
R: Voice, D: Momentary, T: Individual
This spell targets a specified beast, and teleports it to a location that you possess an arcane connection to. The inventor of this spell, Archmagus Cornelius of Bonisagus, carries a ring of may keys, Arcane Connections to the many cages in his menagerie. He uses this spell to teleport beasts to his lab for further study, and has a few specialized cages for his more dangerous acquisitions.
(B: 35, R: Voice +2, D: Momentary, T: Individual)
ReAn 50
R: Arcane, D: Momentary, T: Individual
This spell conjures a beast which you possess an Arcane Connection too, teleporting it to your presence. However, due to the limited range of the spell’s design, the creature must be within seven leagues of your location. Cornelius of Bonisagus invented this spell as a compliment to Sequester the Surly Beast and fixes each key to a cage an Arcane Connection to the beast within. He is frustrated by the Limit of the Tenth Magnitude, which requires a higher level version to be a ritual, preventing him from summoning creatures from an indefinite distance.
(B: 30, R: Arcane +4, D: Momentary, T: Individual)
ReAn 55
R: Arc, D: Mom, T: Group
This spell teleports to you a Group of animals whom you have arcane connections to, if they are within one league. This spell is unusual (and, indeed, does not fit standard Hermetic magic) in that it is over level 50 but not a ritual. However, it does require a casting tool to cast, rather like a Verditius casting tool, except that it requires one pawn of Rego and one pawn of Animal vis to make.
This spell is part of (Bard's) Folio of 1144. A Bonisagus magus was doing research on high-level non-ritual spells. A magic item could have this level and cast this spell; the eccentric kind of casting tool seems to have enough of the character of a magic item to serve the same purpose for this spell. The inventor was unable to reproduce this effect for other spells, and, after thirty years of partial successes, gave up. He published this spell in the folio in order to get some credit for it. His research notes, with a number of accumulated Breakthrough Points, are available in Durenmar in case someone wants to work on the topic further.
(Base 25, +4 Arc, +2 Group)
ReAn 70 Ritual
R: Sight, D: Moon, T: Group
The caster gains complete control over all the horses within his sight (up to 1000). By making a Concentration check of 9+ he can command them to do any action (the storyguide should determine what commands they can understand, and what requires constant supervision). Even after the spell is cast, for a duration of one moon, the caster can regain control with a successful Concentration check, giving the beasts new commands.
The horses will obey the caster’s command without hesitation. If the command may result in bringing them harm (such as ordering them to jump off a cliff), they may resist with a Stamina roll of 15+. A success breaks the spell.
This spell was invented by Denera of Bjornaer as part of her now-infamous defense of the Albigansians. She used it to control the horses of the crusader armies, dispersing their army and greatly assisting the heretics.
(Base 15, +3 Sight, +3 Moon, +2 Group, +1 size for horse, +2 size for more horses)
